Why choose Provence for your vacation?
Provence enjoys a rather dry Mediterranean climate, which means good temperatures all year round. That’s why the cicadas and lavender are so happy here! And why so many stone-walled villages open their doors to you.

The charm of Provence’s villages
The most beautiful villages of Provence :
- Esparron-de-Verdon is a beautiful little Provencal village. The old village is located at the top of the village and around the castle (built in the Middle Ages). As tourism in Provence grew with the construction of the artificial lake, new houses sprang up further down towards the lake. The old cemetery is worth a visit, absolutely charming.
- Gréoux-les-Bains is a typical Provence village famous for its spa treatments. The maze of narrow streets, winding between stone houses, leads up to the Templar castle, where the view is magnificent. In summer, the Château hosts open-air cinema and other events.
- The village of Moustiers-ste-Marie is the best known in the area. Twice voted “France’s most beautiful village”, it sits splendidly at the foot of the hills between which hangs the gold star. You can also admire the work of the many local earthenware makers.
Manosque is the largest town in the area. Its old village is well worth a visit. A beautiful bookshop, and lots of little streets, porches and squares, with several churches within its old town.
Riez is a Roman town, where ancient Roman remains such as columns and chapel foundations can still be seen. The village center is full of history, and boasts the region’s finest market on Saturday and Wednesday mornings.
Quinson is a very small village, with narrow streets typical of the region. It’s located on the edge of a small lake, and above all at the entrance to the Gorges du Verdon! From the Pont des Gorges via the magnificent Chapelle Ste Maxime trail, which takes you into the Basses Gorges to discover their wonders.

Nature and landscape in Provence
In our Provence, we’re right in the heart of nature. You’ll be able to reconnect with your surroundings, and get a good dose of greenery. Between each of the villages mentioned, there are hectares of fields, forests… Moustiers is the gateway to the Gorges du Verdon, and the panoramic views are incredible. Between Quinson and Riez is an immense plateau, filled with olive groves, truffle fields and lavender fields. It has nothing to envy the Valensole plateau! At the top of Manosque is the Mont d’Or tower, with a breathtaking view over the Durance valley… In short, so many beautiful landscapes to discover and recharge your batteries in.
Markets and Provencal gastronomy
In our beautiful Southern Region, Provencal markets give you access to the best of our local gastronomy. First, try the delicious green or black tapenades, the olive oil perfect for our salads and the lavender honey!
At the Riez market, you’ll find plenty of delicious local produce, every Wednesday and Saturday morning. The second big market is in Gréoux-les-Bains, on Thursday mornings (and take the opportunity to visit the town on foot, it’s worth it!). Esparron-de-Verdon’s market is on Friday. In the same way, I’m counting on you not to miss out on a visit to our little village.
When it comes to restaurants and Provencal cuisine, we recommend La Joccianda in St Martin de Bromes. Pieds paquets, a typical local recipe, is on the menu every day! For Esparron-de-Verdon, the restaurant at Camping la Beaume also serves them from time to time.
Otherwise, to taste truffles, the black diamond of Provence, it’s best to go to Bauduen at Domaine de Majastre, or to Aups.
For tasty souvenirs not available at the grocery store, visit Couleurs Paysannes at the entrance to Manosque, or the Maison des Produits Locaux in Allemagne-en-Provence.
